We wll be met at the cruise port by our tour guide to board our private coach for the day.

We begin with Thich Quang Duc Monument.   In 1963 a famous monk by the same name set himself on fire to protect against anti-Buddhism polocies of the Southern Government. This monument was built to memorialize him in the very place of his self immolation.

Its then to the War Remnants Museum. There are many exhibits relating to the first Indochina war and the Vietnam War. Inside you will also find the opportunity to watch locals create hand crafted jewelry and other items, available for purchase.  We visited in 2019 and it is an overwhelming experience.

We continue with a visit to the Saigon Central Post Office which was constructed when Vietnam was part of French Indochina in the late 19th century. It is here 93 year old Mr. Duong Van Ngo,  who in the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records for 27 years spent writing letters for those who ccould not write. He worked daily, charging 50 cents per page written. The post office features polished old-school phone booths, original oil paintings on the walls, and areas to write a letter to a loved one.    You can also purchase post cards and send home to friends family or even yourself for a souvenier.

The tour then proceeds to  Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon in downtown Ho Chi Minh City.  Constructed between 1863 and 1880 , the Cathedral was estqablised by French Colonists who initially names it the Church of Saigon.

We now enjoy an Authentic Vietnamese Lunch.  In addition to the menu noted below,  also included is one beer or soda per person plus, each table of 10 will have 2 bottles of wine, one white and one red.

Afer lunch we make our way to Independance Palace also known as Reunification Convention Hall - the landmark of Ho Chi Minh City.  It was the home and workplace of the president of the Republic of Vietnam.

Its then to the Saigon Municipal Opera House or the official theatre of Ho Chi Minh City. A beautiful example of French Colonial architecture in Vietnam.  The 800 seat   Opera House was built in 1897 and is used for opera and a wide range of other performances.

We continue with a vsit to Mariamman Temple - a temple dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Mariamman built in the late 19th century.

We finish our day with shopping at the Ben Thanh Market, one of the top spots for shopping for tourists. can buy local handicrafts, branded goods, Vietnamese art and other souvenirs. ... One of Saigon’s oldest landmarks

We then return to the shiip.
